On Wednesday 27th April, 38 of our members enjoyed a lovely stroll amongst the bluebells at Blackbury Camp, followed by a delicious cream tea and a talk on bee-keeping at Blackbury Honey Farm. It was wonderful that all our members were able to join this outing – some just took in some fresh air and saw the bluebells from a short distance, whereas others strode off through the bluebell woods. Afterwoods, everyone enjoyed a cream tea, a chat and a fascinating talk by Ken, bee-keeper at Blackbury Honey Farm, whilst looking out at the beautiful flowers outside the cafe window. It was truly a trip to stimulate all the senses and enjoyed immensely. Thank you to Blackbury Honey Farm for their hospitality.
Wow! A huge heartfelt thank you to the staff and customers of Fields who have raised over £2100 to support our Memory Cafe throughout the year that we have been the store’s Charity of the Year. From cake sales to organising a VIP night at the Radway Cinema for the Spectre, James Bond film, this amount of money is going to make a huge difference to our Memory Cafe. We already have some exciting new ideas in the pipeline …

You’ll hear from some of our members, follow us on a trip down memory lane at the World of Country Life (in Exmouth) and find out why you should vote for us to win a National Lottery Award. We hope that this amazing opportunity will raise awareness of the brilliant work Memory Cafes do up and down the country and around the world.
We would like to extend our thanks to the World of Country Life in Exmouth for being the perfect location for our filming.
We are delighted to announce that Sid Valley Memory Cafe has been nominated for a National Lottery Award! We were picked out of over 750 entries from Lottery-funded projects around the country, for our ‘Moments in Time’ reminiscence project. It is a remarkable achievement for our Memory Cafe to get this far … but we’d love to win! We can only do so if we secure the highest number of public votes. Please vote for us. You can do so by clicking on this button or by calling 0844 836 9694 (and calls will cost about 5p). Voting closes on 23rd July 2014. Please tell everyone you can. Thank you.
On Tuesday 10th June, students from Sidmouth College welcomed us into the College for a very special ‘Old School Learning’ event. It was a chance to reminisce about our school days, see how times have changed (and learn about ‘interactive whiteboards’) and enjoy a cuppa and some wonderful homemade cake. A huge thank you to Kyle Baker for producing this special video for us:
You are invited to come along to an ‘Old School Learning’ event at Sidmouth College on Tuesday 10th June, 10:30 – 12:00. Step into the classroom of today and see how things have changed, take part in an intergenerational reminiscence session (complete with slate, chalk, plastercine, old school reports and a cane), hear from some former Sidmouth College teachers and play some traditional playground games. This event is being coordinated by the group of Sidmouth College student Dementia Friends. If you’d like to know more, please call Angela Thompson from Sid Valley Memory Cafe on 01395 577394.
A unique opportunity to head back to school …
